Now we’ve ticked over into 2019 we’re already off and running with our programme of events, appearances and offers to promote the countdown to the very first Isle of Raasay single malt in 2020.
If you’ve been to any of our Raasay Tunes events at the distillery you’ll know how much we love our music on the island. So, no surprise that our passion for music and whisky takes us to the heart of the world’s biggest winter music festival at Celtic Connections in Glasgow on Saturday 26th January. The Raasay team will be heading down to join our Brand Ambassador Chris Hoban for the National Whisky Festival at the iconic SWG3 venue in Glasgow’s Kelvinhaugh. Come visit us at stand 25 in the Galvanizers Hall, sample our whisky and hear about two fantastic masterclasses we’re running on the day with Chris Hoban and our Head Distiller Iain Robertson.
On the music side we’ll be showcasing photography and film from some of the brilliant concert nights and fantastic performers at the distillery throughout 2018. We’ll also be revealing some star Celtic music names lined up for Raasay Tunes throughout 2019.
National Whisky Festival Whisky Masterclasses
We are hosting two masterclasses at the National Whisky Festival in two sessions.
Previewing the First Raasay Single Malt
In the early afternoon session our Head Distiller Iain Robertson will be taking a masterclass describing our journey towards the first Isle of Raasay single malt. Featuring new-make spirit and cask samples, Iain will offer tastings of no less than five different drams from specially selected rye, virgin oak and Bordeaux casks, as well as our Raasay While We Wait single malt.
He’ll talk through the blending, balance and finish that will characterise the Isle of Raasay Distillery’s first whisky bottling in 2020.
Tweeddale Whisky Blending Masterclass
In the late afternoon session our Brand Ambassador Chris Hoban will tell the story of the rebirth of the Tweeddale Blend with samples of the 28 year old Tweeddale: The Evolution and our Tweeddale Grain of Truth Single Grain. Chris will also run a live blending session with a selection of Highland single malt and grain whisky, with a chance to try the whisky blended in the class.
Places are limited but the cost of each masterclass is included in your National Whisky Festival ticket price with places allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. So book your place early!
Pre-order the First Raasay Single Malt
More exciting news from Raasay is that visitors to our Stand 25 at the National Whisky Festival will have an exclusive first opportunity to put their name down on our list for a guaranteed, reserved bottle of the first Isle of Raasay single malt in 2020!
Your Own Raasay Whisky Cask, Big or Small
At the National Whisky Festival we will also be launching our special 30 litre cask offer that enables you to have your very own, filled 30 litre cask, stored in our island warehouse for just £999. Visit our National Whisky Festival stand 25 for details of how to register for a cask and we’ll explain how we’ll fill and store your cask, ready for bottling after 3 years of maturation. Our new 30 litre casks are in addition to our 190 litre casks already on offer.
Burns Night Returns to Raasay Distillery
Back on Raasay we’re kicking off our 2019 programme of events by celebrating Scotland’s most famous Customs and Excise Officer Robert Burns with a special Burns Night on Saturday 26th January. Set in the stunning Gathering Room our traditional Burns Supper will feature poetry, toasts and drams with a ceremonial piping in of the haggis. Earlier on Saturday our co-founder Alasdair Day will host a special distillery tour including – for the first time – exclusive warehouse sample tastings from our rye, Bordeaux and virgin oak casks.
