We were looking for something a little different to do on a sunny holiday Monday that was maybe not quite so busy, and visiting Raasay was a top choice. We had lunch in a beautiful setting outside Raasay House, then had time to wander to Inverarish and back before our tour of the distillery. The building itself is a winning combination of traditional and contemporary, and our tour with the very friendly and affable Calum – himself a Raasay man – was great, as he pointed out similarities with other distilleries and highlighted what will make the Raasay malt unique. Finishing up with a tasting and some questions about the island, the visit is highly recommended as something a little (for the moment) off the beaten track. Raasay is an absolute gem on a sunny day, quite and peaceful, with incredible views back across to the Cuillin and up towards Portree and the Storr. Make sure you leave time to take one of the well-marked forest walks to take in a wee bit more of the island. Amazing!
