I found this whisky to be quite special! Having been a fan since their conception, I found the Colombian oak to be quite unique in flavour profile but, not not quite as flavoursome as the Chinkapin oak, in my opinion. That aside, this endears itself to be left in a Glencairn to garner the encumbent sweetness from the cask, I mean, from the outset, the strong cigar smell on the nose followed by the rich dark fruits from the Bordeaux red wine cask. The palate reveals the sweetness and cigar tobacco and even a hint of dark chocolate! After leaving the glass for about 10-20 mins, the sweetness just grows! The amazing dark fruits become more apparent with the chocolate and the cigar tobacco tails off, the peatiness carries on with an overall long finish. In my opinion, it is very nice but, as they say, I have had better! This is not to diss the product but other Raasay whiskies do it for me (inaugural release, sherry cask, to name two). Happy to share with friends (I already have) and happy to keep the faith with Alistair and his crew. 90/100.
