Cask Strength

Our award-winning, unique six cask recipe, available to enjoy at cask strength. Vatted and bottled at natural cask strength, lightly peated and balanced with rich, dark fruit flavours. Honey gold in colour with hints of red wine hues.

Na Sia – Our Six Cask Story

Two Isle of Raasay spirits – peated and unpeated – are matured separately in first fill American Rye whiskey, fresh Chinkapin oak and Bordeaux red wine casks.

These six recipe casks marry together to create the perfect dram with real elegance, complexity and depth of character.

Every drop of spirit is distilled, matured and bottled on the Isle of Raasay using water from our 60m well onsite.

A taste sensation

When we set out to create the first legal Scotch whisky on the Isle of Raasay, our Master Distiller, Alasdair Day, looked to the older styles of Hebridean whiskies, laden with dark, fruit flavours and heather smoke. Combining tradition and modernity, our single malt encompasses the very best of new-wave whisky making.

A long maturation of 3-5 days creates those iconic dark fruit flavours, and our six-cask maturation process allows for each cask to impart their full flavours onto the spirit.

Authentically, unapologetically, Raasay.

This, for me, is really advanced whisky making.”

BARLEY

We mash only 100% Scottish barley in all our production, and we have also grown and malted Raasay barley using local peat for future 100% Isle of Raasay Single Malt releases.

HIGHLAND PEAT

Our barley is malted using Highland peat, giving a rich, fragrant smokiness to our spirit.

THE WATER OF LIFE

Falling as rain on Dùn Cana, the island’s highest peak, our water flows across volcanic rock and filters through Jurassic sandstone into our distillery well, Tobar na Ba Bàine (the Well of the Pale Cow).

History flows through this mineral-rich Raasay water that adds character to our single malt Scotch whisky spirit at every stage of production, from mashing, to cask reduction and bottling.

MATURATION

We handpick only the finest oak casks and mature all Raasay spirit in our island warehouses, maximising the influence of our maritime, Hebridean climate on the spirit.

CAPTURING THE ISLAND THROUGH DESIGN

Raasay’s landscape is incredible. Much of the geological history of Scotland is here in one form or another. Our decanter-like glass bottle captures this rugged natural beauty. With Raasay’s fossils and rocks moulded into the glass, holding it is like holding a piece of Raasay in your hands no matter where you are in the world. A fusion of tradition with contemporary thinking, process, and design. That’s the Raasay way.

Isle of Raasay Single Malt Scotch Whisky Reviews

  • Really easy drinking yet complex. We bought this as a gift after sampling some a few years ago in Raasay.

    L FN
  • Beautiful and smooth and stands out from the crowd.

    John Bennett
  • This is a stunning whisky. I first tried at a tasting event and it stuck in my mind as being a wonderful collaboration of heather, honey and smoke (medium peat). A few months later I treated myself to a bottle and it’s lived up to my memory from the tasting. Really lovely. For anyone trying it, I find it opens up well and is silky smooth with a few drops of water.

    Ruth
  • Just love the smooth, rich peaty taste of this single malt. Best flavour ever.

    Kevin Archard
  • Proper whisky taste. Warming and full bodied. Annoyed it has taken me so long to find my new favourite malt. Excellent job.
