Last week we released our brand new Isle of Raasay Gin bottle. The rugged, island-inspired design ensures that it is now as beautifully crafted as the spirit inside. The bottle is a glass mould of juniper, rocks and fossils found on Raasay and we want to talk a little more about how this bottle came to be, starting from the design journey right through to the birth of the bottle.

Let’s take it back to the very start. Initially the design process was inspired by three key themes – a sense of place, Raasay’s dramatic landscape and geology, and our modern island distillery. The Hebridean Isle of Raasay is rooted in centuries of illicit distilling and provenance, prowess, and people are at the heart of everything we do. Therefore, we wanted to ensure we captured the essence of these themes within the gin bottle, box and liquid.
On a quiet summer’s evening in 2021, one of our team members Calum, set out on an adventure into the wilds of Raasay to forage for juniper. After hours of searching, he had success. He cut a small sample and brought it home to the distillery to be 3D scanned and subsequently made into a CAD model, which was then transferred onto a mould and blown into glass.
Ratharsair – as the island is known in Gaelic – is also engraved on the base of the bottle.
Learn MoreRaasay’s dramatic landscapes and raw materials are another source of inspiration for our bottle design. Our gin packaging puts the island front and centre, as it is in our spirit. With Raasay’s fossils and rocks moulded into the glass, holding it is like holding a piece of Raasay in your hands, wherever you are in the world.
Buy NowOur state-of-the-art distillery also influenced the design. Our Isle of Raasay stamp gives quality assurance and the gold foil is inspired by our distillery building.
Our new gin bottle design is a true encapsulation of Raasay’s style, character and impressive geological variety. These island themes run through every aspect of our Isle of Raasay Gin, from the packaging right through to the carefully crafted liquid inside. Next week we will be exploring the production of our gin, so look out for some real behind the scenes factory footage – no fuss, no frills!
